2010 YAK SUMMER RESIDENCY JOURNAL
Days 5-9, Friday 8th - Tuesday 12th January, 2010
Things seem to have settled into a rhythm of sorts, the steady beat performers performing, the hum of lights lighting and the hiss of printers printing, filling every nook and cranny of Shopfront. Everything feels oddly calm and just a little too quiet, almost like the moment before a storm, the weather forecast agrees.

I think they were playing for at least a couple hours, there was a party in the middle and a blackout near the end. Definitely fun to watch!

For some reason I think of Alice in wonderland everytime I see this pic
It's nice to see the pieces come together and work start to take shape. Thanks to Leigh Perrett, Ashton Whitwell and David Kirkpatrick most of the lights and sound equipment are up, but just as old problems are solved so do new ones seem to pop up. All in all it looks to be an interesting couple of days ahead (and a more interesting couple after that).
Days 1-4, Monday 4th - Thursday 7th January, 2010
To begin with I should introduce the artists, starting with the largest group and working our way down. The Bits & Pieces ensemble, playing with love in all its forms, Sophie Webb and Mark Pritchard, experimenting with a séance and Faustina Delany working with community, isolation, integration and the migrant experience. From the 4th of January till the 17th Shopfront will house these artists and play nursery to their ideas, this is a record of those days.
Made a bet with Felicity, the director of Bits & Pieces, that she wouldn't perform in the old toilet block.

Dave's installation, previous aim: Holographic Dancer, current aim: Cyberpunk Rainforest, how it looks on day 4: Spinny thing.

Faustina in the Dungeon after Leigh put in a few lights, but where's Faustina?

Faustina's space, work in progress.
Found Faustina.

Faustina, brainstorming.
Bits & Pieces found Dave's installation, replaced spinny thing with less spinny hands.

Summary of the past four days: Three artists came, some sang, we talked to APRA, they stopped singing.
Sophie, singing on day 1.
A handful of hiccups, plenty of laughs, a healthy serving of artistic development and a light sprinkling of stress. Less than a week till the tech run, time flies (like an orange).
