About the artists:
BRIGID VIDLER
Image Nation
Brigid intend to spend the year developing an installation piece inspired by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. The central theme of the piece is transformation. She is exploring the way that messages and images are manipulated by their medium. She is exploring shadows to convey her vision; stop motion animation, photography, charcoal. Vidler is pleased she has full control over her piece which means she is able to mature her technical and performance skills.
Brigid performed in Lotaphagi: The Lotus Eaters, a performance/installation piece based on Homer’s the Odyssey, directed by Regina Heilman. (For ImPACT Ensemble, the scholarship program she was in last year) She performed in Bombshells by Aussie playwright Joanna Murray-Smith, designed and crafted costumes for Romeo and Juliet and executed the choreography for Cabaret.
Brigid entered the performing arts as a dancer, training with the Randwick Academy of Ballet in classical ballet, contemporary dance and character for nearly 14 years.
She holds the Associate of Trinity College London (ATCL) diploma, in the specialty of acting, for completing grades 1 to 8 and is currently studying at COFA and UNSW for a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Art Theory.
Brigid will perform in Lost Toy Story in August, an interactive multi-media arts festival through Hurstville CBD generated by Shopfront which will give her the opportunity to further develop her installation and puppetry skills.
ALEX VAUGHAN
History in the Life and Possible Death of My Pelvis
Alex Vaughan is currently developing a one woman show, History in the Life and Possible Death of My Pelvis (working title) for Shopfront. The performance will not only explore Vaughan’s complex relationship with her pelvis but the power of the pelvis as the body’s centre for creativity, energy and the role it plays in women’s lives.
Alex feels she has the freedom to cultivate her artistic identity as a director, writer, composer, performer, musician and dancer by being part of ARTSLAB 08. Her show will exude a cabaret feel, embracing a variety of music such as opera and gospel and include an array of impersonations.
Alex Vaughan is also a promising photographer. Her latest collection of photographic work was exhibited throughout March at the Art Lounge Café in Coogee.
At the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP), where she spent close to eight years in the company, Vaughan developed and played distinctive characters in the following productions: Lucky by Toby Schmitz, Beatrice by Louis Nowra and This Territory by Noelle Janaczewska. She toured with the company to Belfast to perform in Debra Oswald’s Skate as part of the Belfast Festival.
Alex’s television credits include Home and Away and All Saints. In the movie Lost Things directed by Martin Murphy and written by Stephen Sewell, she starred as Tracey.
