Glitchy Animation

June 17th, 2009 David Kirkpatrick 1 comment

Hey people,

In Japan Kanako and me recorded performers expressing perfect moment stories through movement. I then processed the results using a combination of After Effects and GrandVJ to get the dark glitchy animation vibe. Below is a screencapture of roughly what it looked like. The music is a track SKANK developed for the showing.

During the showing the projection was beamed onto a dimly lit white wall. The performers, and their shadows, imitated the silhouettes. The result was a delayed movement-based call-and-response from performer, to the digital, and back to the performer once more.

What does Superperfect mean to me? to you?

June 12th, 2009 spob 3 comments

We were discussing this at last night’s rehearsal at Shopfront.

My response?
Perfection is killing me.

TJ asked me to think of an image that represents this.

Instantly I was reminded of a picture my friend drew for me back when we were in high school. At that time I was going through a lot of stuff, and to top it off I was being given a hard time by a couple of people. Together we came up with this gelatinous monster, which has since been a metaphor for so many things in my life.

I am happy to do my impersonation at any time
