Young people at Shopfront express a sense of being embedded within continuous and shared history of practice and community.
Outside the official history, there are hundreds of other histories, residues of past practices and selves.
Creativity is perceived as always relational – generated and transacted in relation to people, things, spaces.
The environment of Shopfront – its combination of spaces, flows, ways of speaking and moving, and resources – is conducive to creativity and belonging, and imparts momentum to both self-developmental and creative processes.
This can be through its embracing of the processual, the unfinished, the messy, both in the design and population of the building itself and in the practices that occupy it – the approaches to making work and hearing ideas.
